I haven't been to Hagenbeck since 1995. I thought I was following its matters fairly well but I never knew the Brown Bears had a new exhibit. When was it opened? Is it on the same location as the old exhibit. And I thought Hagenbeck always had Kodiak bears, not Kamchatka bears. The bears I saw were huge beasts, but of course Kodiak and Kamchatka bears live in the same part of the world, only divided by the Bering Strait.
It was opend 2005 and is attached to the old enclosure. A bridge over the old dry-moat connects the two enclosures.
Till 2007 there was a single kodiak named Buffy. He moved to ZOOM Gelsenkirchen. From russia came 4 young kamtschatkas. By now they have still 1,1 in this enclosure. But they are not that huge by now. Give them some more years!
