This is the famous Antja with one of the four young walrusses imported in 1985. Unfortunately, all of them died very soon. The Park will get new walrusses for the new polar exhibit, which is under construction now.

Wasn't one of them the male that was alive until at least 2001? Or did that one come from somewhere else?

No, the four youngsters died, if i remember correctly, within a year or two. I've visited Hagenbeck after a long break in late 1987, at this time, Antje was by herself again and the four youngsters were dead.

I think that famous ‘Antje’ died in 2003, after about 27 years at Hagenbeck’s zoo.
Last time I was in Hamburg, I saw her stuffed in the Hamburg University’s Zoology Museum.
