The Asian House in Munich Zoo. In here lives sloths (yes, I know they are from South America) above the vistors. This house provides indoor housing for indian rhinoes, malayan tapirs and bearded pigs. I am not a big fan of this house, as I think it is too dark and grey.

Doesn't look bad, but it's not very light, and a pretty depressing sight. Strange that they have sloths in that house!!

There are way too much visible concrete and there is too much space for the visitors compared to the realetively small indoor stables for the animals.

This is the most bad animal houses in whole germany ! The stalls for tapirs and the indian rhinos are much smaller than the old rhino stalls of the 60 ty's ! And don't forget, teh rhinos are most of the year inside, because bavaria has a long and cold winter, so you see, how much space the rhinos have for a long time of their lives-nothing ! The coolest thing is, the entree to the pool for the female rhinos on the right side is to small for adult rhinos,ha,Ha.
So the females have to use the males pool, but they have to pass the stall of the bull, to reach the pool, but the females are afraid of him, if he is inside, so they can use the pool only if the amle is outside, but if is it to cold outside, tehy can't let him out and the females can't use the pool,Ha,Ha.

Do you know how indian rhinos are live in the wild ? The lve in wetlands and swmaps spending a lot of time laying in mud or water...So they need very soft grounds for the feed, but in munich( and most other zoos), they have too hard grounds and so they they have big problme swith their feed. Soft Ground and water is very important for indian rhinos in captivity, they have to be kept like hippos and not like african rhinos !

The other problem with that house is, the are no directly doors from the stalls to the outdoor exhibits, the animals have to use a halfround gangway behind the stalls, this is a very dangerours situation for the keepers, a few years ago, a tapir atatcked his keeper and bite him into the leg. The man can not work any longer in this profession since this accident.

A lot of people call that house the"Rhino Flying Saucer"
