The male died some moth ago, so they only keep the old females. It's not sure if there'll be new lions after their death.

I hope the will stop keeping big cats in the Jungle Tent, its one of the most worse new big cat houses I've ever seen in a zoo,its not good for big mammals, but it could be a nice combination for reptiles and birds, so the present lion outdoor exhibit could be used for komodo dragons, the indoor cages could be made much bigger for them. Its amazing to know, the old Nuremberg zoo, closed in 1939 , has opened in 1912 much bigger and better outdoor cages for leopards and jaguars than munich has done 85 years later....

"New" Cat-house is also very relative... It was opend 15 years ago.
For that time all visitors wanted a junglehouse but the city didn't want to give money for that. But for a new cathouse (the old was simply junk at that time), so they planed the cat-exhibits in the junglehouse. For sure, it is not the best, but it is not that new and not that bad.

15 years isn't an age for ananimal house, and the Jungle tent is more than bad for big cats.
The climate is too wet for the lions, they have a lot of problems with that, and there are a lot of more things which are really bad for the animals, which have to live in that desaster and for the keepers, which have to work in this desaster. I know the old house, the lion terrace wasn't much worse than the present lion terrace, the only diffrent is the grass, but the inside conditons were much better than in the new building. Not all old houses are bad. The main diffrence between old and new is in many cases only the look, the new buildings just looking better, thats it.

The normal age for a exhibit is 15 to 20 years before it's been replaced. So it is old.

Sorry, I don't agree with you, but if you mean it, its old, than its time to demolish it. But this was it also at its opening, the Jungle tent was always an outdated house, as like as most other"new"buildings at Munich Zoo.

I''ve visited the Zoo for the first time in 1974, and at this time, it was one of the most beautyful animal parks in europe. Now, under the directory of Dr. Wiesner, it became more and more an architectual museum with living animals.
