any breeding?

Nope. The male died few years ago and the females are way too old. Also they are not pure subspicies and the male was the son of the one female.

There was a cub in the exhibit on my earlier visit in 1999 but there won't be any more breeding from them. The old male seen here died one or two years later (there was a discussion about this on another photo) and I think they are waiting for these two old lionessess to die as well before they bring in new blood.

If you look at the timing of mine and Animal's replies, you'll see that we were working on it at the same time, I just posted mine one minute before Animal did his!

Good news: according to the new director of Munich zoo, a group of young lions will indeed be kept in a then built new, more appropriate exhibit once the current old lionesses have died of old age.

I wonder what will be kept in the old lion enclosure then; maybe the jaguars?

Where will they build it? Along with the new giraffe-enclosure? Will they get a pure ssp? Questions over questions.

@Sun Wukong. Wow, I knew it, Wonders can happen, like Nena's Song "Wunder geschehen..." I would use the present lion platform for an necessary expansion of the jaguar exhibit, but maybe, they will use the water moat for a little boat ride and the island for...coatis ? ( JUST A JOKE, OR IRONY, you can choice....)
