Frankfurt I think have a glass viewing area for black rhino. And am I correct in thinking that Vienna have glass windows inside the elephant house? Although there might be another barrier.
So, the largest megafauna can't be hold within complete glass walls at 'dry' exhibit?
We have underwater views for hippos & elephants, and tanks with orcas. And the glass is strong enough to withstand pressure of water and power of animals.
A large orca weighs just like an average Asian elephant - 5 tonnes. While 1 cubic meter of water weighs 1 tonne. So the glass holds thousands of tonnes!
Why not putting elephants in a clear dry tank?
A pic of rhino behind complete glass wall was real... but it's not at ZC gallery.
Well, rhinos at least. Thanks!
No hot wires are visible at pic, and horns aren't rubbed. So the point is conditioning animals to glass, so it's recognised as a physical barrier.
And why similar exhibit for elephants don't exist?
They can be trained to wash the glass
