Apennine Chamois (Rupicapra ornata) at Tierpark Hellabrunn - April 9th 2015

Possibly my favourite lifetick taxon from my visit to Tierpark Hellabrunn, the wild population of this species is gradually increasing subsequent to a concerted breeding programme, which has led to the species being reclassified as Vulnerable.

Annoyingly some portrait shots have uploaded correctly whilst others have not..... however, clicking on the image causes it to display correctly.

What annoys me is that the Pyrenean chamois - Appennine version receives so little attention from the zoo community!

I seriously hope it does change for both the Pyrenean and Italian-Appennine subspecies before long. Some hopeful signs from zoos in Spain and France here and there.

Italy - any takers?
