A HUGE area, shared/alternated between a very old bear, and 2 slightly youger siblings. The keeper pointed out where the femail had dug herself an underground den for herself (although she had never bred)

Polarbear or syrian brownbear? Anyways... Looks very safe with this high security fence.

Is it corret that the bears at Cairns are related to Melbourne Zoo's elderly pair (of which one still survives)? People often mistake them for polar bears as well. I know that Syrian brown bears are generally paler but the bears in Melbourne and Cairns (from the photos I've seen) seem to be especially pale.

the Melbourne pair were the male (Roan) born at Adelaide Zoo in 1985, who came to Melbourne Zoo that year with his two siblings. The female Honey was born in Bern, Switzerland, in 1987.

The older Cairns bear came from Perth Zoo in about 2005 (?) along with his equally elderly mate. The two younger bears at Cairns came there from Mogo Zoo in I guess around 2007 (?) but are the cubs of the Melbourne pair.

In December, the keepers said the 2 younger bears were called Honey and Pooh - does that mean both the mother @ Melbourne and the her daughter are called Honey? or am I reading this wrong?...

Huggie and Pooh are the younger two. Barney is the old Perth one.

Melbourne's female is Honey.
