Fabulous enclosure (all in all 50m²) for currently 17 bonobos.....

Wow! and I thought Twycross' Bonobo exhibit was unattractive...

Indeed it is very unattractive, sterile and absolutely overcrowded.....

How many great ape species does this German zoo have?

Bonobo
Sumatran orangutan
Western common chimpanzee
Western lowland gorilla

They also serve as "Great Ape Nursery".

1,1 Western Chimpanzees
2,3 Sumatran Orang-Utans
3,5 Western Lowland Gorillas at the Great Ape House

+ 3-5 gorilla orphans at the nursury

Only the bathtube is missing in this awful, terrible, sterile, boring, to small, and only God knows what ever else,exibit...

Don't worry, the zoo will send a part of his hoofstock collection, especially antelopes, to the devil and will start construction of a new apehouse in autumn 2009.

Hey, I guess, in a few years, some guys will critise that are all waterbucks are gone from german zoos....The same guys, which were shouting very loud for a new apehouse...And these same guys are using nicknames like"Anti-Gorilla"in zooforums, writing postings in threads
called " I can't see them anymore...."

This looks, weird. The walls looks like something in a hospital, and those platforms looks like boxes...

Welcome in 70ies/80ies ape exhibits, easy to clean, but not very "natural". The bonobos have been moved to a new much larger enclosure by now though...
