The main pool inside the Rio Negro tropical house in Duisburg Zoo, Germany. This pool is home to the last boto and contains around 600.000 litres of water. Free-ranging in the surrounding vegetation lives animals such as golden-handed tamarins, green-winged macaws and channel-billed toucans.
Rio Negro was built in 2005 and houses animals from the Rio Negro area in tropical South America. The main attraction in here is the last boto (Amazonian river dolphin) outside of South America. The structure is 900 sqm (0.22 acres) in size and 11 meters (36 ft.) tall. Rio Negro is a beautiful display and one of the best exhibits in Duisburg Zoo and the boto is an absolutely fascinating creature.
