The last boto (Amazonian river dolphin) outside of South America pool swimming in its 600.000 litre pool inside the Rio Negro tropical house in Duisburg Zoo, Germany. Rio Negro was built in 2005 and houses animals from the Rio Negro area in tropical South America.

In this shot the playfull boto tries to swallow my camera.

Brilliant shot of the old guy!
Thank you.
Despite duisburg controversial history with cetaceans, i'm definitely pro trying everything possible to get new specimens when this mohican will be gone once.
It would be wasted ressources to run another "amazon house with carribean manatees".

Seeing them in 2004 in the old pool is one of the most memorable experiences of my zoo visiting time. I had seen them in 1999 as well but did not realize then how extremely rare they are. I doubt that I will have a chance to see the surviving beauty in the new pool though.

@PeGe. Abosultly Right, there are quit too much manatees in the zoos. And it is very senseful to keep Botos in just one zoo outside of south america, very senseful instead of doing a bredding programme for manatees.
