If it us any conciliation the out door exhibit is great.

There are viewing areas that show pigmy hippos with gorillas in the background a first for a zoo I think!

The pool isn't that small and in opposition to the "normal" hippos, pygmy hippos belong more to the land insteat of water.

it is small enough that when a pygmy hippo wants to swim aka walk on the bottom it is way too small. Allthough they are mainly terrestrial, I have seen pygmy hippos doing that quite regularly. So it could be larger imo.

Thats correct-and Pygmy hippos do move a lot in the water-I've seen that in many zoos. And it doesn't means, they can be kept in tiny pools, only they because they spend more time on land than hippos.( they don't"belong"to the land...)Unfortunately, tiny pygmy hippos pools are still common in german zoos.

Eagle is right- Its fine
How often would there be a pool any bigger than that in the Congo rainforest anyway?

No it's not. The pool needs to be larger and deeper. Apart from that this is a fine enclosure, though.

Lakes, rivers, ponds, ect.....
