A plan of the fabulous new Ape House at Frankfurt Zoo. Previously know as Bonoboland, this house will now be known as Borgori-wald (wald=forest). The outdoor enclosures will house orang-utans, bonobos and most special: Gorillas, eastern black-and-white colobus monkeys, diana monkeys and mandrills in the same outdoor enclosure.
The black and red lines on the picture mark where the current Ape House is. The house is due to open in Febuary 2008.

Hope they have a big space as (despite recent discussions on this subject) I think this may be an accident waiting to happen!

How could it be an accident? Could you please explain what you mean?

I was surprised to see that they would mix those species as well, though I don't think the gorillas will be the problem ;). I am more concerned about the mandrills' behaviour towards the smaller Brazza and Diana monkeys. Does anyone know if this has ever been done before?

Chesters mandrills live with Campbell's guenons quite peacefully. Looks a pretty good design, but I agree there could be trouble in the mixing.

Cool. I thought mandrills were way to agressive. I can't wait to see this exhibit. I think it will be fun to look for five different larger primates in the same enclosure. And the house looks fantastic.
