The zoo's small mammal/nocturnal house.

Wonderful house, with species including North Island Brown Kiwi, Northern Cacomistle, Kowari, Short-beaked Echidna, Cape Ground Squirrel, Fat-tailed Dwarf Lemur, Moholi Galago, Aardvark, Australian Water Rat, Seba's Bat, Giant Jumping Rat, Grey Mouse Lemur, various mice, tamarins, sloths, tamanduas... it's a good house!
Out of that whole list I've seen 9 of the species. It's amazing that you can see all of them in one building in Frankfurt. :)

I last visited the Grzimekhaus in February 1984 (and loved it then as much as Maguari loves it now), so unless it has changed the first few exhibits (entering at ground level) and the last eighteen exhibits are diurnal enclosures, everything in between is nocturnal.

.......

Hope this was of some interest.

The lighting arrangements are still as you describe.

There's some stuff on that list to make me jealous, Hix!

(still just chuffed to see a kiwi at last, though!)

Some day I'll get around to transcribing into ZooChat all my notes from the different zoos I visited on that trip in 1984.

It took all my persuasion (and a few hissed threats about no ice cream) to get my 6 year old in here because she was terrified of the giant bat overhanging the entrance !

Great collection though ..... in fact, for a city zoo, I thought Frankfurt was pretty good all round, with the notable exception of the awful hippo pool.

@GillP.
Yes, the hippo pool at Frankfurt Zoo isnt't nice, but otherwise, the hippo do have many things which all the animals in the GRizmekhouse doesn't have: Fresh Air, Sunlight, Wind, rain...The exhibits at the Grizmekhouse are also much to small for most of the species there, so for all Primates, the Tamanduas, the Slothes, Aardvarks, Aye-Aye's and many more. It is time to replace this old building.

Another interesting info:Taipei Zoo is closing down his huge Nocturnal house, because the zoopeople decided to keep all this animals also in outdoor exhibits, because its better for them than just be kept indoors.....

I know this was posted before I even joined ZooChat but just wondered if you'd ever started to sort your notes out Hix? I'd love to know what you thought of your Euro trip (which happened before I was born...)! :)

Has anyone been to this house recently? What species are on display there now?

I'b been to the Zoo a couple of days ago. No new Species added to the Grzimekhouse, so the inventory is constant since the arrival of the Quolls. More and more exhibits are occupied by the same species. I will do a list of the species later the day.
