T his cages are much bigger than it appears on the picture. I like the cage-Idea, because the primates can use the fences for climbing, too, and cages don not need so much space than free view exhibits with the big water ditches sourounded by electric fences. This water ditches are a big danger for apes, and many drowned apes are an impressive evidence for that....
I wouldn't call these cages too small. It depends on how many orangs the zoo is keeping in it, so I think, there or four, so not too many orangs for these cages.
Humans, especially some zoo interest people, are often to quick to say an exhibit is too small or not good enough for the animals. The orangs at heidelberg are in great condition and they are looking very good, they do not show any unuasully behaviour, so they do accept their one home more than the humans are doing....
