Grevy Zebra and scimitar horned oryx

The Kiwara Savannah Exhibit houses also Desert antelopes like the scimitar horned oryx, I think, the high energy grass can not be the best food for a desert animal, which is eating very, very dry grass in the wild....So many Scimitar hornred oryx I know are to fat and have extremly problems with horns and hooves....

Edinburgh have had the same problem with their addax in a grassed paddock, seeing Grevy's zebra and scimitar horned oryx in an "African savannah" to me is just lazy zoo management!

I know a zoo who is keeping mountain zebras together with giraffes. Not even they have fights between the mountain zebras and the giraffes, so both species are now seperated, the zebras are eating the afalfa hay of the giraffes, which is dropping out of the feeding basket to the floor. Afalfa is highly energy and powerful food, to much energy for the desert animal mountain zebra, so most of them have extremly problems with their hoofes, thats why some zoos are just feeding hay to them, which is not helping.

You see, there are often problemes with mixed species exhibits, which are not known to the visitors. I never would keep mountain zebras together with giraffes. One resaon thatfor is, both species never would met in the wild...

At Disney's Animal Kingdom, one section of the Kilimanjaro Safaris has scimitar-oryx, Grant's zebra, and bontebok. Talk about covering all corners of the continent.
