I am as keen as anybody on old zoo buildings, but even I would have to admit that these monkey enclosures were past their best by the time this picture was taken. Leipzig has moved forward to an extraordinary extent, and in many ways these pictures you have posted give an indication of that progress. Here it looks like a jaded and aged zoo; now it has a claim to being Europe's best (and maybe will be worthy of that title, later this year, when the new tropical house opens). Having said all of that, i think there are still some animals in this house, although presumably that is only a short-term measure.
Again, thanks for uploading these excellent pictures Baldur.
Thank you John for your encouragement; I'm getting to the end of what I have to upload and I'm mighty glad that this major task is coming to an end.
Those of us who have not been to Leipzig Zoo in years, such as me, will have a chance in September when the Zoohistorica will be held there. Will I see you there by any chance? I hope to be, as the third trimester will only start a few days later.

Your third trimester will be starting? When is the baby due Baldur? Haha!! Anyway, I truly appreciate your decision to upload hundreds of historical photos, and it has been marvellous spending my holiday season glancing through the ZooChat gallery. We need as many people to scroll through these precious photos as possible so that over 50% of them are not deleted by next December, so Baldur while you are in Edinburgh studying you can spend your spare time clicking back and forth on your photos so that the number of "views" increases and thus they can all be saved!

I have the feeling that I'll have better things to do in Edinburgh - but I'll certainly keep it behind the ear! Let us just hope that something happens about the Gallery in the meantime; we all know it's needed. It is actually the reason why I bothered with all this, because I have confidence in that something may happen some day.
