What happened to the polar bears in Leipzig?

The older female died in 2005 (37 years old), the younger one was shipped to Bremerhaven. Unfortunately she was killed by the male there...

Looking at this photo it almost looks possible that the bears could climb to the top of this enclosure, what is the other side of the wall?

Behind it is a moat and behind that a wall where it goes deep down.

Thank god it is now gone..

@Cat-Man The bears have gone, but Bear Castle remains. Picture hordes of screaming children, a giant wooden dragon, and water cannons. Awesome adventure playground it may be; tasteful reimagining of an historic structure it is not. I’m glad it was renovated rather than bulldozed, however.
