OK, so camera not really up to this one. But a fantastic beast!

Leipzig's animals are the only quolls of any kind in Europe. The other species in the nocturnal section are Pygmy Slow Loris, Virginia Opossum and (another treat for dasyurid fans) Kowari.

The Prevost's squirrels were rejected to replace them by Sri-Lanka giant squirrels in co-housing with Brown tortoise (Manouria emys) and Wrinkled hornbills (Aceros corrugatus). Prevost's squirrels are indeed very common in germany.

Unfortunately the zoo was not able to get a male for the single female, that died in late summer this year.

There are German and English versions available at the zoo (at €9.50); the German version is available from newsagents in Leipzig as well. I did look for it in the zoo's online shop, but it's not there.

Well worth a read if you can get hold of it.
