Hyaena Exhibit at Leipzig, 02/09/11

Home to Spotted Hyaenas, with views out onto the savannah paddock behind.

Wow! That's an impressive hyaena exhibit, I can't even tell where it ends and the savannah begins...

To be honest, I'm not sure any of the foliage you see here is actually in the savannah - because of the angle everything's either the hyaena exhibit or the back boundary of the savannah. The furthest trees are in the parkland beyond the zoo boundary, from where the savannah is also visible - though not as well as it was in 2005 before the foliage grew up!

Ahhhh, so is the enclosure as good as it looks here then?
Can't help but feel a little dissapointed by the lack of views into the savannah, would make an excellent photo oppurtunity!

There are views, just not on this shot (combination of my height (or lack of) and a slight mound of earth!).

It's a very good exhibit. There were two young hyaenas too (unfortunately I didn't see them, but others did).

Damn those pesky mounds of earth!
I can imagine trying to find young hyaenas in this exhibit would be difficult, there does seem to be a lot of cover judging from the photo.
