One of the exhibits in the outdated Bear Castle in Leipzig Zoo. There are five small exhibits here. Sloth bears and polar bears used to live here. Now only the spectacled bears live remains, living in all five exhibits.
When the spectacled bears move out, the Bear Castle will be transformed into a playground. A very good way to put an outdated historical animal house to good use.

The bear castle (German: Bärenburg), the baboon rock and the "tiger-farm" are definitely the shady sides of the zoos...

Yes, but I am comforted by the fact that Leipzig Zoo actually can build brilliant new exibits and are developing at a fast rate.

Yes, a very good use indeed. I love when zoos save historical exhibit buildings for other uses, such as the old carnivore house at Memphis Zoo (USA) that is now a cafe.

The Bear Castle will NOT transformed into a playground. The monument conservation office Leipzig has knocked this plans on the head already in 2009.

Renovation works will happen during the next years, plans for further use are in development.
