Pygmy Hippo Feeding with Diana Monkeys

Taken 14th August 2015
Does anyone know how successful this mix has been?
It seemed rather odd but I didn't notice any problems at feeding time while watching them.

Why should it be odd? The animals use different levels of the exhibit, do not consider each other as overwhelmingly threatening (having options to elude one another) and are fed a (more or less) similar diet. And unlike many other mixes, they're even from the same original habitat, thus having similar climate requirements.

I suppose looking at it like that, it is quite a good mix. It just seemed like there was potential for conflict with species that wouldn't naturally have such close interaction (despite overlapping distributions).

The African arboreal monkey-pygmy hippo mix has been done a number of places with various results. Mostly fine or no serious problems, but in some cases the animals have had to be separated. It seems to mainly depend on how "friendly" the individual pygmy hippo is, which is quite similar to what can be seen in mixes of normal hippo and other animals. I've not heard of any serious issues with the mix in Leipzig.
