Chinese Pangolin Makes a Break For Freedom!

Taken 14th August 2015
The Pangolin lumbered into the crowd of people accompanied by a few screams of small children before being retrieved by a keeper. Pangolins are such cool animals!
Have to say I always thought that for a species to be extinct that all specimens were dead,or does extinct have a different dictionary definition in the good old USA then the rest of the world!

Are there any living individuals in the western world outside of Leipzig? ;)

Dang-it, I just realized that there is apparently one still in the U.S. (the one at the San Diego Zoo, unfortunately he's used only as a demonstration animal, and is off exhibit when not doing demonstrations.)

As far as I'm aware, San Diego have Manis tricuspis, not Manis pentadactyla - is that correct?

As promised, the photographic evidence that this is not an isolated incident.......

The San Diego pangolin now has an "on screen" exhibit - the former marmoset exhibit next to the playground in the Children's Zoo. It is a Manis tricuspis.

That is not an incident, I touched them several times outside the enclosure when the keepers were cleaning it.
