Some individuals will say that there is shade, climbing opportunities and the basic necessities of life met for this mandrill...but boy what an ugly cage. Where is the sense of wonder? The green lush jungle? It is a brick wall and a wire cage displaying a beautiful and powerful animal...why not spend the bucks and create a moated, semi-realistic environment that will garner respect from the public? Zoo visitors began to respect all primates much more after many zoos switched from cages to naturalistic conditions.
Its one of the older things at the zoo, but I think, there is a background story to that cage, whcih i don't know and which you don't know, so if want to answer your questions, please feel free to ask the zoo by youself....
The mandrills are looking great and healthy, so that exhibit can't be that bad, as you mean.
So how do you think get the zoo the money for new exhibits ? They can't replace all old exhibits together at the same time....
