Part of the outdoor walkthrough exhibit for Tanzanian black-and-white colobus (Colobus angolensis palliates) in the Africambo section of Magdeburg Zoo. Part of the walkthrough exhibit is separated by a moat and functions as an outdoor exhibit for eastern black rhinos (Diceros bicornis michaeli).

The Africambo I area is the first phase of the new African savannah area opened in 2010. The whole area is 20.000 m2 and features many African savannah animals. The second part, Africambo II, will feature a new elephant exhibit.

So the colobus can access either the rhinoceros section or the walk-through section. Is that how the exhibit works? I really like this idea. It could be recreated for all sorts of combinations (e.g.squirrel monkeys/brazilian tapirs).

@PAT, that is correct.

Africambo is a very nice project and sets a high standard for the new building plans they have in Magdeburg.

I like the look of this too. It would need a pretty wide water barrier to be effective for colobus - they are accomplished leapers, as London found out to their cost with an attempt to mix them with Western Gorillas!

At the moment they are building a new chimpanzee house + outdoors, the indoor will also accomodate crocs (Ostealamus). After that a new elephant enclosure will be constructed on a newly gained area. Also gelada's and nubian ibex are on the planning for this part + various other smaller african animals. The current chimpanzee house will change into a house for African monkeys, the 2 species of guenons will stay and mandrills will be added.

Thanks for the confirmation. I look forward to the other developments if they're going to be this good.
