Polar bear pit, Riga Zoo

Very sad - unfortunately some zoos still have these old style pits.

Riga is the capital city of Latvia, which is in the northern part of Europe. I totally agree with you zooman in your assessment of the polar bear pit. It's sad that such grottoes are still in existence, and the polar bear in the photo doesn't exactly look that healthy.
