Thanks for all of the great photos from Featherdale Hix. I love being able to look through a comprehensive collection of photos from animal parks and zoos that I haven't visited.

Thanks Pat.

I hadn't been to Featherdale for some years and decided some weeks ago it was time I paid a visit, and the days recently when I was able to go all turned out rainy, so I took the first sunny day I could. Unfortunately I couldn't document everythying they have as they have LOTS of different species of birds - and most were in more than one aviary (i.e. multiple pairs/groups and offspring).

Aren't these guys also called Jabirus even tho there is another stork species from the Americas called a Jabiru?

yes they are. The South American species is the "real" jabiru (the name is from Tupi-Guarani). The Australian species is named after the South American one. I always call the Australian species the black-necked stork.

I grew up calling this a Jabiru, but started calling it Black-necked some years ago to avoid confusion.
