Jardin Animalier 2005 - First part of the tiny Hippopotamus exhibit

This odd royal menagerie is owned by Albert II the Prince of Monaco. They have done some renovation but space is awfully limited as the zoo is practically built on a rock ledge overlooking the yacht harbour.

At least they have a great view ;)

Having seen this exhibit, I'm happy to report that it was not a question of 'them' but 'it'.

I wonder if they still keep a hippo there. I think Prins Rainier had died shortly before I was there, his son may have done some more changes to the menagerie than had already been done when the prins was alive.

Simply dreadful, but ironically has to be the most expensive hippo enclosure in the world.

How can a country this rich have a zoo this bad?

I know that I shouldn't make judgements from photos alone, but this time I don't see the downside.

Is this zoo still in operation as of 2011? Hopefully not.
