it could be alot of things Vc but first glance I thought elm bark beetle and think i may be right. It carries what we know as Dutch Elm disease killing most English elm tees in it's wake.
Originally a North American species the beetle arrived in wood from the Netherlands hence our calling it Dutch Elm rather than just Elm beetle.
