Batto 27 Nov 2014 Given that this species is called "Trauerschwan" (mourning swan) in German, it makes one wonder whether this specimen has ended its mourning..

Batto 28 Nov 2014 @Hix: So mourning in Australia ends at 2 pm? How peculiar; must be tough to schedule the obsequies.
I I IanRRobinson 28 Nov 2014 Just how unusual is this morph? I've NEVER seen an albinistic Black Swan before - do Aussies or swan enthusiasts feel able to comment?

Hix 29 Nov 2014 I have never seen one before or since. In fact, I'd never even heard of one, so was a bit of a surprise when I saw it. Gorge has this thing about white creatures. Lots of white/albino macropods and a some other birds.

Chlidonias 29 Nov 2014 there's a wild one in NZ: Black swan - Black Swan - photos by Neil Fitzgerald, NZ nature photographer While googling, I discovered that leucistic black swans are called merles (apparently) and seems to be quite sought after by enthusiasts of keeping fancy waterfowl. They do not appear to be at all common though. I also found this cool photo of a proper full-white black swan on King Island: King Island Bird Watching - King Island's different, funny & unusual
