Hemigrammus bleheri

This is a rummy-nosed tetra; there are three very similar looking species:-

Hemigrammus rhodostomus
Hemigrammus bleheri
Petitella georgiae

The extent of the red colouring on this specimen makes me think it is probably Hemigrammus bleheri but I am willing to be corrected.

Hemigrammus bleheri is correct. There are a number of ways to tell the three apart, but only in bleheri does the red extend behind the gill covers like this.

Thanks for the confirmation.

As mentioned in my earlier post, the extent of the red colouring was the reason for my tentative identification of Hemigrammus bleheri .

However, the three species of rummy-noses are so similar I preferred to be cautious rather than categorically state it was H. bleheri
