A very clever exhibit; the small tank houses an electric eel, whilst the sensors above the tank bleep and light up appropriately on sensing an electrical impulse.

They have a very similar meter at the Living Planet Aquarium in Sandy, UT.
 
There is a similar set up in Vancouver for elephant noses, abas and other african mormyrids. I think they have it set up to make sound too.
 
That's interesting - I don't think I've ever seen this kind of set up used for anything other than electric eels. The thing that interested me most in Artis was the way that such a small, gloomy tank grabbed so many visitors' attention with such a simple device. Below is a photo of the tank at Zurich, which works in a similar way.
