Artis Zoo - Northern gannets

I'd love it if a Dutch birder reading this could explain why their name for this bird is "Jan van Gent".

Granted, he died in 1399 and no likeness has survived but I would be most surprised if Edward III of England's fourth son had a long sharp beak, let alone webbed feet and a two metre wingspan...:)

The name Jan-van-Gent had nothing to do with the person, but is an offspring of the Irish name Ganainéad, which with a dutch accent could lead to JanvanGent.
