This enclosure was, well, frankly dreadful. Fortunately no longer in use.
If that was directed at me, I was not saying that Artis should again keep Manatees in these conditions :)

What is of this enclosure now, anyway?
Sorry for all the questions and thanks for all the answers :)

The enclosure now holds land tortoises, if you wouldn't know it was the former manatee bathtub, you probably wouldn'r recognize it anymore...

I would be very surprised if any coming masterplan would include manatees, there is just not enough space for them....

Tha is actually a picture of almost all of it. Manatees lived and bred there!
Then, after they left it was converted to an exhibit featuring large South american fishes (red-tailed catfish, pacus, various cichlids, arowanas). Then it was considered too small even for those and converted to terrarium with marine toads (Bufo marinus) that had been kept there for some time. Now you can see the whole thing as a planter in gorilla building of Artis. You can get a feeling how small it really is.

Well, i just return from my first Artis visit. And missed this information,..i was in the Gorilla House but didn't look for the "manatee planter",...Can anyone provide a picture please?

The enclosure now holds some species of European tortoise, you cannot have missed it. The tank itself is covered from the outside with plants, rocks and stuff ;)

Ahhh, thanks :) So this one has always been in the Gorilla house, and never in the aquarium? Yes, we were looking at this weird thing, surprised it's inhabited by european tortoises,....And we were wondering for what it was once made. Do you have a picture of it?

Too bad, i just took this picture,...maybe someone has one showing the whole exhibit?:(
