Gorilla and Meerkats

I have never seen anything like this before! The meerkats and the gorillas were sharing an enclosure!

Why????????.....

They have been sharing for many years!
I can remember seeing the meerkats in the gorilla indoor exhibit I did not realise they shared an outdoor grassed area as well, is the grassed area relatively new?

I am not so sure sorry, not too familiar with Artis. Zoos continue to surprise me haha!

We thought it was bizarre, but the mix of sea lion and penguin took me more by surprise!

This is a different group of meerkats then the ones that shared the indoor enclosure with the gorillas several years ago. Indoors they were mainly there to catch mice. In that time there were also meerkats in with the mandrills, the owl-faced guenons and on the savannah. They also had their own enclosure, so there were 5 groups of meerkats on display in a zoo of not even 14 hectares .

I believe the current combination is more because of enrichment purposes...
