Does anyone know if the 'Maleise' (Malayan) on the sign is indicative of these individuals' origin or is it a standard Dutch name for the species? Most of the Yellow-throated Martens in Europe are the Northern form.

This is a species I saw for the first time in the US, in the 'Polar Bear Plunge' area at San Diego in 1998. Happily, I can now see them an hour's drive from my house (at Twycross) - at least when they come out and play!

If we should believe Zootierliste BestZoo has the northern subspecies Martes flavigula aterrima. Therefor Maleise = Malayan is not the correct name, even not in Dutch !
By the way, Best had the Dutch first-breeding with this ( sub ) species during 2011 !
During my visit earlier this year, they were hidding most of the time in the large tube in their enclosure.

As you can see Maleise Bonte Marter is the general Dutch name for Yellow-throated Martens.
