They are starting to become more popular in the private sector along with zorilla and fishers. Still not a common animal here in the states though. I have not seen one in a public collection yet and probably won't for sometime. Plus, patagonian maras are considered vulnerable (which I just found out recently!) so this will probably be the reason why there will not be any chacoans in US zoos.
Considering how rapidly they are spreading through European collections, and the imminent arrival into a UK collection, I suspect it is only a matter of time.
They are a very attractive taxon, was rather pleased to see them at Tierpark Berlin.
