Nicaragua Cichlid (Cichlasoma nicarguense)

Not nics - I think they may be synspilum. The genus Cichlasoma has been revised to death too. I've lost track with of the new names, many of which are literally unspeakable :(

gentle lemur is right, these aren't nicarguense, but either the cichlid formerly known as Cichlasoma bifasciatum or C. synspilum. First both these species were moved to the genus Vieja, then to Paraneetroplus or Paratheraps, and a recent detailed review has shown that synspilum/synspilus is a junior synonym of melanurus! In summary, synspilum/synspilus is no more, and the cichlids on the photo are either Paraneetroplus/Paratheraps bifasciatus or Paraneetroplus/Paratheraps melanurus (Paraneetroplus/Paratheraps depends on how broadly you want to define the first genus; both options are valid based on current knowledge). Need to pull out some literature for differences between bifasciatus and melanurus.
