Burgers' Mangrove - General view

Burgers\' Mangrove is the smallest of the three tropical houses in the zoo. It has a unique theme namely a tropical mangrove forest. This house boasts the biggest collection of mangrove trees in Europe! Species in the house include little pied cormorants, little bitterns, sailfin lizards and red-winged parrots.

wow that is awesome! (Apologies to those who don't like the use of that word )

I think this is a great exhibit, and there is a lot of scope for species to include. What does it smell like inside the house? (Real mangrove forests can be a little stinky!)

The smell in the house is just like any tropical greenhouse in a zoo , maybe with a bit of a fishy smell in the cormorant part . The species selection is focussed mainly focussed on Indonesian mangroves

The house consists of 2 parts:

The first part holds mainly smaller bird species and the largest part of the plant collection:

Lemon bellied white-eye
Little bittern
Moszkowski green winged king parrot
Orange-fronted fruit dove
Red-winged parrot
Sunda hooded pitta
Superb fruit dove
White-eared catbird
White-rumped shama

The second part holds the larger and mostly fish-eating species
