Nice pic VC, however that's not why I'm commenting. Was this pic taken in portrait orientation as I am still having the problem where images I've taken in portrait orientation are flipped on their side when posted in the gallery!
Yes the picture was taken in portrait orientation but as you see I don't have the problem of pictures flipping on their side, don't know why you have this problem....

Its nice to see that this species is still kept. I know there are still a few around privately but I never understood why cardinals in general have not been very popular in captivity. To me they tick all the boxes being beautiful birds with character and attitude but unlike softbills not too aggressive and not completely insectiverous when breeding. My Red-crested were hardy easily withstandining a British winter and have always been relatively expensive which thoeretically should've promoted captive breeding even in the days of regular imports.
Actually thinking about it the above applies to most neotropical finches.
