You say this photo was taken in May 2007! It so happens that I was living in Cairns at that time. Too bad we didn't know each other then, we could have gone on a zoo spree together!
I would haved loved to have met you Baldur, as you and I have privately exchanged a few interesting messages over the years. It is interesting that we were in Australia at the exact same time, as now we are in much different climates in Iceland and Canada! While we were in Cairns my wife and I paid $15 to hold a koala while at the Kuranda Rainforestation Park, and I might be mistaken but I think that the State of Queensland is the only place in Australia where koalas are still allowed to be held (rather than just stroked) by the public.
I think it is both Queensland and Tasmania, could Australian members confirm or correct please. I guess you can say we are in different climates because you live in Vancouver, which has if I'm not mistaken a balanced climate, but go further east (Winnipeg etc) and it would be a different story.
I should have paid the AUD 15 for holding a koala too, I hope it will still be allowed when I go back Down Under (which is in the pipelines as I write this
