Lowland tapir

June 1 2014
Thanks for the compliment, always nice to hear there are people outside there which like my pictures :). BTW the Lowland tapir is not that rare - at least not in Europe and is actualy the most commonly kept of the 5 tapir-species !

I never saw this species yet. Only Malayan Tapir (San Diego Zoo, Bronx Zoo) and Mountain Tapir (Los Angeles Zoo)

The lowland tapir is by far the most commonly kept tapir in Europe (about 130 holdings), and probably in the world as well. The mountain tapir you mentioned, is only kept at the LA zoo, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, SF zoo and a breeding station in Canada, you are very lucky to have seen them!

EmperorTamarin is completly right ! You are realy lucky and -together with the recently discovered Tapir-species - the Mountain tapir is the only species I've ( sofar ) never seen !
