European hamster exhibit (May 2nd, 2015)

Exhibit with a burrow holding a European hamster, a species that occurs in Limburg but is considered threatened. A breeding program takes place and GaiaZoo takes part in that; animals are reintroduced into the wild when possible to maintain the population. An exhibit visible to the public has been present at GaiaZoo for years now, but I've only once or twice seen a (sleeping) hamster at GaiaZoo. During both my recent visits no hamsters were visible.
