Trail of the Elephants is definitely looking a little beaten down and bare in comparison to a year or so ago. I still like the slight elevation gains around the paddock.
Maybe one of the Aussies will know the measurements of the enclosures, but there are 5 elephants in total (including one bull), 3 large paddocks and Dokkoon is pregnant at the moment. The entire complex is only a few years old.
I suppose it is understandable why the exhibit has deteriorated so quickly. From 2003-06 only 2 elephants lived in the whole precinct; meaning the grass and foliage remained in tact. However the addition of 3 more elephants a couple of years ago (2006 i think, maybe 05) has spelt it's eventual decline (vegetation wise).
