The much loved Baboon cages

This cage is a third of the whole complex and is closed off to the rest of it. It features almost no enrichment and is much worse then the other area (although it was the most populated).

Why on earth is the Melbourne Zoo spending $20 million on a marine precinct (which did need improving) when everyone knows that the Hamadryas baboons have easily the worst cage in the zoo? Perplexing...

I'm not trying to defend this exhibit but there are parts with natural substrate and it is probably the most enriched exhibit ever.

id be inclined to agree with Pat, the zoo over-compensates by providing the most enrichment it possibly can.
of course the cages are still unacceptable and it would be far more 'enriching' for both zoo visitors, staff and presumedly the animals themselves if they were relocated to weribee
