I beleive they have Vic Koala in QLD, but anyone feel free to correct me. A book i have lists 3 s.species but says that 2 may be the same and has to be investigated.
The last I heard was there were three ssp, Vic., NSW, and Qld.
Amazingly, their distributions seemed to coincide with the state borders.
Whayt most people are certain of, is that there are obvious differences between Victorian Koalas and Queensland Koalas. NSW Koalas appear to be intermediate between the two.
I guess it will take some geneticist to work it out, and then it probably still won't be any clearer.
ha ha ha! i've always thought the same! another example of how ridiculously hard it can be to classify sub-species with (at least until recently) continuous distributions.
