Adelaide Zoo have 1 male and 3 females but that's all there is in the region along with Melbourne Zoo's 2 females.
From what I can can tell, there seems to be no long term plans for Australian zoos to house any species of macaque. But I hope this isn't the case. I've got a real soft spot for them.
I unfortunatly think this is the case because I remember going on a tour at adelaide and one of the keepers said they are not breeding them anymore due to that disease that people can get from them. Which I thought is a silly reason due to how many zoos have macaques and breed them and how many people catch the disease in modern zoos, nearly none.
herpes B - from what i know you can test for it, and the japanese macaques in tasmania are successfully managed no-contact despite testing positive for the disease.
