Here is a photo of two syrian brown bears at Melbourne Zoo swimming in the moat of their exhibit. They were play fighting and getting bits of food that had been put into the water by keepers but one was showing stereotypic behaviour where it would put a small stick into it's mouth and push off the wall backwards. It would take the stick out of it's mouth swim to the edge put the stick back in it's mouth and start again and it did this when ever the other one was trying to get it's attention.

It's still too small IMO but they have really done the best with what they've got for these bears without spending much.
 
yep - far too small.

when the bears die it could easily be used for something more suitable though. snow leopards could even be an option - add some hotwire and the walls are probably high enough and the moat could be drained...
