Is this enormous building heritage listed? For example, some structures in zoos across Australia reach a certain age and then can never be torn down as they are registered as worthy of leaving up forever.
We had a tour with the director and there's certainly no intention of demolishing it - and rightly so - it's a great bit of zoo history. He does intend to clear out the owls through - presumably leaving the building as an empty monument.

Yes of course it is fully protected - and again I will repeat we do have a national law regualtion to protect our (and not only our - see below) cultural heritages. This Bear Castle was built in 1863-64 and was the first building at Breslau (Wroclaw) Zoo - yet before the official opening of the zoo on July 10, 1865.(to make all clear Wroclaw known under German name Breslau up to 1945 belonged to Germany. And of course the zoo which opened there in 1865 was known as Breslauer Zoologischer Garten, and it is understendable that all XIX and early XX centuries buidlings there were built by Germans).
@fanaloka: thanks for the updates on the world heritage listed buildings. For some people it is fascinating to see ancient castles and temples all around zoos, but for others it can limit a zoo's progression in the 21st century. Taronga Zoo in Sydney, amongst other zoos, has been impeded in its plans to construct new exhibits because it has been stuck with a handful of old, outdated buildings that it's had to renovate or revamp to fit the modern outlook. I suppose if zoos can incorporate the old with the new then it will be a winning solution to their problems.
