This is the zoo of my childhood. Only about half of it remains today as it was then.
Species that I remember at Melbourne from around this time period (I'm sure there were many more that I've forgotten) and are not there now include cheetah, jaguar, clouded leopard, bobcat, fennec fox, maned wolf, lion-tailed macaque, de brazza's monkey, bison, blackbuck, spotted deer and mara. What I miss most, though, is the huge number of parrot flights and small habitat aviaries that were where Trail of the Elephants is now.

Ditto mate. The aviaries were great. I remember the yards opposite with larger birds such as brolga, canada geese, rhea, ostrich and cassowary.
i also remember chimpanzees, leopard cat, golden cat, ocelot, caracal, brazilian tapir, congo buffalo, black leopards, eurasian badgers, grey dorcopsis, squirrel monkey, brown nosed coati and indian crested porcupines.
around this time Melbourne had the absolute best collection in Australia.....
